CHANDIGARH, MAY 13(Bureau) The Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema today felicitated the students who earned distinction by topping the +2 Examination. Dr. Cheema also extended gratitude and high words of praise towards the teachers of such school who have excelled exceptionally well in the examination. Teachers with good result would be awarded with appreciation letters by the department. He said that the education department would soon convene a meeting to evaluate the performance of those teachers who had given dismal performance in the examination.
In a press communiqué released here Dr. Cheema expressed deep contentment over the result of Government Schools, Rural area schools, Girls and Sportspersons. He said that it is the outcome of the various welfare schemes of the Punjab Government that the girl students in every succeeding examination raised their standards and notch top positions.
Dr. Cheema said that this year the pass percentage is 79.55% which is better than previous year. Likewise, the pass percentage of the government schools is 77.59%, which is second best after the result of meritorious schools. The overall pass percentage of the girl students is 85.83% and the pass percentage of rural area schools is 79.07%
He said that 341 students secured position in the merit list and all these students got more than 95% marks. Out of this merit list 76 students belongs to Government schools including the 23 students from meritorious schools. He said that it is also noteworthy that this year 41 sportspersons also did exceptionally well in the academics besides their routine sports activity and they secured position in the combined merit list.
