S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), October 13 : Department of Health & Family Welfare, Punjab here today issued appointments letters to 86 new regular Medical Officers (MBBS) appointed through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot. These appointment letters were handed over by Punjab’s Health & Family Welfare Minister Sh. Surjit Kumar Jyani in the presence of Principal Secretary (Health) Ms. Vini Mahajan at the State Institute of Health & Family Welfare Phase-VI, SAS Nagar. Health Minister, Sh Jyani welcomed the new doctors in the department of health and exhorted them to work hard and serve the people of Punjab. He mentioned that the profession of doctors is very noble one and they should live up to the expectation of the people. He mentioned that recently 341 vacancies of Medical Officers (MBBS) were advertised by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot and after following the due selection procedure the first lot of 86 doctors were being given appointment letter today. He added that next round of counseling shall be held shortly by the department, wherein more appointment letters would be issued. The induction course for these doctors has also been started simultaneously after which these doctors shall join the different Govt. Hospitals in the State.
Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Health while addressing the doctors appreciated their decision to join the Govt. Service and serve the people of the State. She said that as visitors to Govt. Hospitals are very large number thus it provides an appropriate platform for due exposure and experience to these new doctors. She said that many poor people come to Govt. Hospitals for treatment and hence these new doctors would also get an opportunity to do selfless service for welfare of mankind. She added that essential drugs and many test etc are provided free of cost in the Govt. Hospitals. Constant efforts are being made to further strengthen the primary level institutions with latest equipment and additional manpower in order to cater more patients at primary level itself, without going to tertiary level health institutions. She said that with the appointment of these doctors the health services will get a major boost. She said many initiative have taken by Government like free screening and treatment of disease like dengue, chikungunya, Swine Flu etc. along-with new interventions like stroke management, free First 24 hour treatment in emergencies, free treatment to all girls upto 5 years age, free Hepatitis-C treatment in all district hospitals and medical colleges etc.
Dr. H.S. Bali, Director Health Services, Punjab gave orientation to the new doctors regarding the various health programmes and schemes of the Health Department. He stressed upon the doctors to serve with sincerity & dedication and remain punctual for timings. The Officers also addressed the queries of the newly appointed doctors.
